History of Hyderabad

 This 400 year old city covers almost 100 square miles and sits 1776 feet above sea level. It was founded by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah on the River Musi just five miles from Golconda in 1591.

In the present day, Hyderabad have modernised greatly with a population of over 3.5 million. The residents of Hyderabad, the Hyderabadi, follow many religions although over 70% of religious followers in this city are Hindus, the other main religion in this city is Islam with some minorities following Christianity.  

Although Hyderabad is the fifth largest city in India it is the sixth most populated, with a domestic population of over 6.5 million and an overall population greater than 12 million. Due to over 70% of the its population following the Hindu religion, a statue of Buddha was created, standing at 18 metres high, making it the largest monolithic statue of gautam Buddha in the world.
